Getting Involved! Throughout my college years, I was not as active in organizations as I was back then when I was in my high school years. Honestly, I miss the feeling of getting involved and preparing projects for the student body. This year, I decided to join an organization in Med School - the Asian Medical Student’s Association UERM Chapter to be able to participate and do something extra curricular. I think this is a reward for me after being stressed out from academic pressure. Doing something non-academic related can be sometimes fun and it helps you gain experiences and friends as well! :)
Yesterday, I got to join in our first project for the Internals Committee entitled Give a Toy to Totoy. We placed drop boxes around the campus and asked for toy donations from the students for us to distribute to the children of the Pediatric Ward, Outpatient Department, and some less fortunate kids near the vicinity. We were flanked by tons of kids when we started giving in Bgy. Donya Imelda, just at the back of our school building. The number was outrageous and we did not see it coming. We ran out of toys to give but we had candies in hand to share with them after.
It felt great being able to share simple joys with these kids. If only we knew, we could have prepared more for them. Yesterday’s activity gave us ideas for future projects we might have for the coming days. And this was a great involvement for the Christmas season! Got 8 days to go til Christmas! Have you been naughty or nice? :)
